EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM

The Borough of Chambersburg has instituted the Hyper-Reach Emergency Notification System - a high-speed phone, text, and email communication service for emergency notifications. This system allows us to contact all or targeted areas of the Borough in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action (such as a boil water advisory, missing child, or evacuation notices).

The system is capable of delivering 50,000 phone calls per hour and 50,000 text messages per hour. It can deliver our recorded or written message to any registered device or answering service, making multiple attempts to connect if necessary.

THIS SYSTEM WILL ONLY BE USED FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES.

Examples of times when the Hyper-Reach system could be utilized:

Drinking water advisory
Utility outage
Missing person
Fires or Floods
Bomb threat
Hostage situation
Chemical spill or Gas leak
Weather alerts

and other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety

The Emergency Notification Database

This system is only as good as the telephone database supporting it. If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be notified in an emergency. To ensure no one is omitted, all individuals and businesses are encouraged to sign up today. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), and primary phone number (additional phone numbers and/or email addresses are optional).

No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, and who use a cellular phone as their primary home phone.

Hyper-Reach is a geographical based notification system, which means Chambersburg street addresses are needed to select which individuals receive emergency notifications in any given situation. The system works fine for cell phones too, but a street address is required. People who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number also need to change their address in the database.

The information collected will only be used for Borough of Chambersburg emergency notification purposes.

HOW DO WE CONTACT YOU IN AN EMERGENCY

If we need to contact a large number of customers, we may do so through the Hyper-Reach Emergency Notification System with a message explaining the situation and giving you directions for more information. We may also use the media, such as local radio and newspapers, to get information to you. If we only need to contact a limited number of customers, contact may be made by phone and text and/or by a handout placed on your door explaining the situation.

WATER ADVISORIES OVERVIEW

Sometimes we must issue a Boil Water Advisory or other alert to some or all of our customers. This may occur if there is a large water main break in your neighborhood or if we have a mechanical problem such as an extended power outage at the water treatment facility. In the event that we need to issue a Boil Water Advisory, or some other alert, we will contact those customers by phone and text and/or by a handout placed on your door which will explain the situation and include directions for more information. We may also use the media, such as local radio and newspapers, to get information to you. Also, this web site will usually contain up to the minute information on water related advisories.
